The Ecolibri vertical axis wind turbines are designed to generate electricity to be fed into the grid or to be stored in batteries for the creation of an off grid system. In this case, the wind turbine must be installed with solar panels too.
All turbines can be connected to each other creating a wind farm.
It can be painted with different colours to better adapt to the surrounding environment.
Why a vertical axis wind turbine? the blades are always pushed to the wind in any position: the operation is constant beyond the direction of the wind and is activated even at low speeds; the vertical turbine is usually more effective in turbulent winds and gusts; it needs less maintenance and much simpler.
In 2018 Ecolibrì designed and built the 10kW vertical axis Ecolibri wind turbine, a system suitable for multiple uses: a domestic use for large living spaces, small businesses or if combined with other turbines, a mini grid for industrial use can be created. The single turbine occupies a space of 100 square meters. It is completely in aluminium with carbon reinforcements; it has a generator on the top of the pole and a disc brake, the machine is good in terms of safety and reliability for to the need of electricity in all conditions; the 10kW wind turbine can be also used together with solar panels and thus create a hybrid system. The electricity produced can be both conveyed into the electricity grid (on grid system) and into batteries disconnected from the grid (off grid system) making the place served by the system completely independent from the national grid.
The 10kW -EW01 vertical axis turbine was born in 2018.
It has aluminium blades, an external rotor generator on the top of the pole and it was installed for the first time in South Africa in 2019
Made in Italy – Designed and powered by Ecolibrì
The design and prototyping of the new 10kW wind turbine version will be completed by the end of 2021. It will be a made in Italy product and in addition to the fact that the uses of the system of the old version are the same as the new version, this will have better structural characteristics and higher efficiency.
Ecolibri will take advantage of the support of the Politecnico di Milano to be able to proceed with the realization of this new model.
The turbine will have sails in its composite, the axial generator will be placed close to the ground to allow for advantages in terms of accessibility for repairs and maintenance. Like all vertical axis wind turbines, they take up little space. There will be a disc brake and the machine will start producing with a higher cut off; this will cause the turbine to produce much longer.
